Penn Yan, NY - Yates County will be holding a Handgun Safety Training Seminar on Saturday, May 21st , 2016 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Yates County Building Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. This event is sponsored by the Yates County Sheriff’s Office and the Yates County Chapter of SCOPE. Registration is being coordinated by the Yates County Cooperative Extension Office. Seating is limited.
The Handgun Safety Training Seminar is for adults (ages 18 and over) who are already licensed owners of handguns, or those interested in owning a hand gun and wanting to become familiar with safety, security and legal responsibilities of handgun ownership. Absolutely no firearms are allowed to be brought into the training seminar. The seminar will cover: firearm safety; nomenclature of pistols and revolvers; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; firearm cleaning, storage, security and responsibilities under the law. Certificates of completion will be issued.
“Knowing your responsibilities with safe handgun ownership is paramount,” said Sheriff Ron Spike, “to have familiarity with type of handguns, their safety features, security on and off the person, especially when in storage, and understanding the use of force laws is important.”
SCOPE member Jason Cook, ex-Yates County District Attorney and presently an ADA with Chemung County will be on hand for questions on legal accountability and justification.
Again this seminar is free, and seating is limited, so please make a reservation by calling the Yates County Cornell Cooperative Extension office in Penn Yan at 315-536-5123.
