Yates County

History

Welcome to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Yates County!

Cornell Cooperative Extension’s history dates back to 1914, when the federal government established a network of Cooperative Extension programs throughout the country to help connect the research conducted at land grant universities with each state's farmers. Although the mission of Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) remains the same as was in 1914—to apply university knowledge and resources to address community need—the needs of New York's communities have changed. Cornell Cooperative Extension's 55 county associations and its New York City offices each connect university research to the diverse needs of their local communities

The mission of Cooperative Extension is to enable people to improve their lives and communities through partnerships that put experience and research knowledge to work. Extension staff and trained volunteers deliver education programs, conduct applied research, and encourage community collaborations. Our educators connect people with the information they need on topics such as commercial and consumer agriculture; nutrition and health; youth and families; finances; energy efficiency; economic and community development; and sustainable natural resources. Our ability to match university resources with community needs helps us play a vital role in the lives of individuals, families, businesses, and communities throughout Yates County.

CCE-Yates is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization and is part of the Cooperative Extension land grant system, a partnership between County, State, and Federal governments that is administered in New York State through Cornell University. Each county's Cooperative Extension association is independent and works to serve the needs of the county in which it is located.

We have an extensive system for getting input from diverse interests in the community, and we welcome your ideas and involvement in our efforts. If you are interested in how CCE-Yates sets policies and program priorities, or if you'd like more information on how to get involved, please contact Arlene Wilson, Executive Director, at (315) 536-5123.
